Down By the Bay...where no watermelons grow

Down by the Bay.....The girls and I went and saw my dad during Mid-winter break on the Long beach Peninsula. He is staying in a Cabin Style home on the bay. A little fun fact...I lived on the peninsula till I was 9 and this home is where one of my favorite teachers lived while I was a student in her class. It was so cool for me to have stayed there.

The girls loved having the wide open space to run around...
and to show papa all their oyster shells...

take in the scenery

We also went to the Beach... It was abnormally warm for February...Blissfully so..

poking dead crabs with our feet to make sure of their "deadness"

Sand!!

kiko also enjoyed the wide open spaces

Chillin

I'm still not sure if it's fortunate..or unfortunate..but I got to see the sun rise a few times

And Off to the Bay to get some clams!

Hana was our gatherer

This is Papa Steve: AKA: my dad :)

After a bit of complaining of the cold..Makayla adopted the saying, "if you can't beat them..join them." She had her own style of clam digging. We literally poured water out of her boots.

Look tough girls..we are tough clam diggers!

They found a baby dungeness crab!

Hana was the Chief Clam scrubber and tomato chopper that night for dinner.

We love it here!

My grandparents house! A place full of Many memories. They also live at the beach..I was so happy I got to go down there.

Maple Bar Sweet Maple Bar.....So in Long Beach there is a Bakery called the Cottage Bakery. There Maple Bars are so delectable that I don't bother buying Maples bars anywhere else. Not Safeway..not anywhere...only long beach. I'm just disappointed if I get them anywhere else. So on our way out of town we stopped by the bakery and I got some Maple Bars to go..in a box..so that when I got home.. Dj could share in their amazingness! When we were about 1 1/2 hours from home we stopped at a grocery store to get the girls a snack. When I returned...Kiko (our lovely..but clearly not aware of my love for Maple Bars Dog) had opened the box and scarfed the bars. Needless to say I was both Angry and crushed. I called my mom, Dad, and both sisters to share my sadness with them.
After being home for a few days Dj said I had something very special in the mail...

What's this...(fictional tears of joy)! I though...Oh that Dad..he went down and got some bars and mailed them to me...but no..
It was my Sweet sister Molly..who lives in Austin Texas who sent them. She called the Bakery in Long beach..and had them overnight me some maple bars! Isn't that the sweetest thing you ever heard!
Cheers Molly! This Maple bar is for you...and it's scrumptious!

Was that a blessing for the home I saw on the wooden beam by the stairs in the house by the bay? Was there more than one?

Mmmmmmmmmm... I've often thought to myself that I'd really be saving myself some trouble if I learned how to make some good maple bars myself. But I never have.

Thanks for sharing the Cottage Bakery info, maybe I'll order some too! Jill
