To JELB! The book club of Jenny, Eva, Laura, and Becky...WoW!!
I finally finished ATSS and it took me forever..but really only a few sittings..I just needed the time to devote to it since once I started reading...I couldn't put it down. I had heard that it was more heart wrenching than the Kite Runner...but I didn't feel that way. I understand how it could be as a woman reading a woman's point of view, but I do feel that there was so much more redemption in this novel. The sorrow that was experienced was a heroic sorrow. The Love that was experienced was a deep, forever, Anne of green gables kind of Love. And although I always hoped for the best with the introduction of each new character, I knew that hardship was just around the corner, because that is the way Khaled Hosseini writes..and I do believe it is a pretty accurate description of the times he writes about! I'm not sure if all of the JELB ladies have finished the book..so I don't want to spoil it, but WOW! This has been one of my favorite books of all time. I loved it when it made me cry and when it made me wince. You must read it if you haven't already done so! Two thumbs up and a hankey in hand.

I'm glad you loved it! Great summary of the book, I feel the same about the underlying message of hope and perserverence and strength. Makes me thankful for where I was born and raised, and makes me want to pray for those born in much less fortunate circumstances. People living in areas like that are WAY stronger than I.

Done! I couldn't put it down once we started. I really enjoyed learning about the culture. I would love to learn more about Afghanistan and it's people. I will say that I am a die-hard classics lover so I still prefer old stuff. I am waiting for a contemperary book to absolutely know my socks off! I am so glad that we all liked it. What next?
